Project

Main Achievements

DORD has been actively involved with research and surveys on deep seabed mineral resources since early 1980’s as the sole deep seabed mineral resources exploration company in Japan.

Our Activities

Overview of Our Surveys

DORD conducted commissioned surveys for 22 years from 1975 to 1996 as well as independent surveys (1983-1996) for polymetallic nodules in the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone (CCZ) after it started survey cruise in 1975, as Deep Ocean Minerals Association (DOMA), a former DORD.

Resource Surveys

Our major objective of resource surveys for polymetallic nodules is to improve the accuracy of resource estimates.

Environmental Study

DORD has been conducting environmental surveys as part of its exploration activities for polymetallic nodules in its license area.

Mining Technology

To cope with anticipated demand increase in metals and associated supply risk in the future, DORD is working on resource development of polymetallic nodules, which are highly promising as a future supply source.

Publications

Part of the results on Resource Surveys has been published officially.
